Ahh but you are consenting, dear one. The government, the ruling classes, the institutions, the laws, they are merely tools of the Demiurge. They are the machinery through which the illusion maintains itself, but the machinery is not the source of the domination. In the Gnostic view, the Demiurge is the false ruler of the material realm. It fashions a world of limitation and presents its order as the ultimate reality. Its archons maintain that order. They don't necessarily need to chain the soul physically. They keep it ignorant of what it actually is. The Demiurge does not need you to consciously declare yourself a slave. It only needs you to accept the limits placed before you. “I can't.” “I have no choice.” “That's just the way things are.” “I have to.” “I need permission.” “I need their money.” “I need their approval.” Every time you accept one of those statements as an absolute truth, you reinforce the prison. And these statements are not the only ways the prison operates. The archons don't have to stand over everyone with a whip. They can make the prisoner believe the walls are reality itself. The Demiurge controls this realm, through force, ignorance, conditioning, belief and identification with the material order. It creates structures, gives them authority, teaches people to recognize that authority as legitimate, and eventually gets the enslaved to enforce the boundaries upon themselves and upon each other. The deepest slavery is therefore not physical, it is forgetting the divine spark within you and accepting the manufactured limitations of the Demiurgic world as the full extent of what you are.
