>*Before telling you the gossip and my reflection, I want to give you some context. I rent out a studio apartment, for just one person, through the Booking platform. Thanks to the universe, I’m getting quite a lot of travelers. Since I live very close to Ezeiza International Airport, that works in my favor a lot. Yesterday a person booked with me and she had a special request: the young lady was coming with her pet, a little dog. Although the app doesn’t say very explicitly that I don’t accept pets, I rather left the door half-open to talk about it, and that has brought me several travelers, because when people travel with pets it’s sometimes hard to find a place that will take them. On top of that, the young lady was supposed to arrive at 5 p.m. and she arrived at practically 11 o’clock at night. It can happen, but right from the start things weren’t going well.*

> *For personal reasons, I wasn’t home when she arrived, and Zuni received her. She simply had to open the door for her, hand her the keys and explain a few little things about the apartment. When I come back in the early morning hours, I notice a pickup truck parked in front of the apartment, and I suspected what I had sensed in the afternoon. That same afternoon, she had told me: “I’m waiting for a friend who’s going to take me to Ezeiza.” The young lady was in the apartment with another person who hadn’t booked. I was really outraged, but since it was the middle of the night, I didn’t want to bother her. Another exception I made was getting up at 4 in the morning to do the check-out. I was able to confirm that she woke up with another person in the apartment. Since they were in a rush and hurrying, the only thing I could tell them was that she didn’t respect what we had agreed on. “Another person came into the apartment, but I’m going to send you a message,” I told her.*

> *And I’ve been reflecting on the whole thing. There’s a term in Argentina that I don’t know if you use in your country, and it has to do with viveza criolla: those little actions people do to take advantage in any situation. To give you a football reference... You know when players fake a foul to get an advantage? Well, in Argentina there are a lot of those kinds of actions. In cycling, for example, sometimes there are people who ride at the back of the peloton pretending to be tired, making up all kinds of excuses, and at the end of the training ride they break away and leave you hanging. The joke is: “I broke away and nobody caught me.” But they don’t mention that during the whole ride they were sheltered behind the peloton, saving energy. Well, I guess you got the concept. I don’t know if this person did it with that intention, but I do know that when I sent her the message, she didn’t answer. And sometimes silence says much more than a thousand words.*

> *Yesterday afternoon, since I had saved her number, I saw a WhatsApp story where she posted a photo of her father in the middle of the countryside, saying: “I’d love to be like dad, without so much stress, in the middle of the countryside.” That’s where my reflection comes from: sometimes we don’t realize it, and we don’t live up to those values we were taught as kids. In our everyday lives we behave badly almost without noticing, like this viveza criolla, and then things happen to us in life and we ask ourselves: “Why is this happening to me?” I’m one of those who believe that each of us sows our own seeds, and if they aren’t fertile, of course the fruits won’t come the way we want. I’d love for the girl to make the transfer and pay me the difference. It’s not much, but for someone who’s just starting out, it really counts. But deep down I don’t really care either, and honestly, the message I sent her is so that she reflects.*

> *Our actions are the result of who we really are, and the consequences sometimes aren’t the ones we expect. I think it’s essential to live consciously and realize that in our everyday actions we’re laying the bricks of what we’re building. I really didn’t want to expose her on Booking, because she might leave me an unpleasant review, and honestly, when you’re just starting out, you have to watch out for those situations. She still hasn’t answered me, and I hope she does. It doesn’t matter if she doesn’t send me the money, but if she gets to reflect and make changes in her life, I think the job is already done. If I don’t send her the message, she’ll assume that what she did is trivial and doesn’t matter much. For that reason, I’m sending her a reflective message, which I’m sharing with you at the end of this post.*

> *Now, I’d like to know what reflection this story brings up for you. What would you have done in this situation? I’d love to read you, because honestly I don’t know if I did the right thing, but what I am sure of is that I did what I felt, and that’s not always right. In other words, you have to do what you have to do, and it always matches what you feel.
Happy day, everyone.*
